The place name St Levan comes from Selevan or Salamon, the original patron saint of the church, chapel and holy well here. Salamon is recorded as a 10th century Cornish dedication and may be the Breton king assassinated in 874AD.

Gordon Chapel was built in 1834 to a design by Archibald Simpson, funded by George, 5th Duke of Gordon, and Duchess Elizabeth to serve as a place of worship for the Episcopalians of Fochabers who had been meeting in a thatched cottage for some 50 years.

An imposing building constructed in pink sandstone which stands close to the west bank of the River Ness and looks across the river to the city centre and to Inverness Castle.

Built by the 14th Lord Lovat in 1826, altered in 1881 by Peter Paul Pugin and is reputedly the first Roman Catholic Church to have been built in Scotland post Reformation.
