St Michael

The church appears to have been built in the 13th century. The original tower was surmounted by an overweight spire (Michael of Amesbury, then Abbott of Glastonbury). This fell in the great storm of 1703. The church was described as "terribly over-restored" by Pevsner in 1858, who gave a long list of the aspects of the church he took issue with. However, he celebrated the tower, rebuilt in 1725, saying it was "an interesting endeavour in the Gothic style." The bell openings have Y-tracery and Somerset tracery and the eight pinnacles look perfectly good. The chancel was remodelled and enlarged by the squire in 1857. 

The project will install a disabled loo, meeting area, and hospitality unit in the north aisle.
