St James

St James is listed as a Grade II* Victorian church, designed by Samuel Sanders Teulon, whose style was a High Victorian style known as 'Modern Gothic'. It was executed in brick and flint. The most striking element of the interior is the vibrant polychromatic brickwork, using red, cream, and black bricks in diaper patterns to the walls and bands over arches to the arcade and windows.

Our grant went towards the re-tiling of the roof and making the building weather-proof, improving roof insulation to aid heating, and to resolve structural movement in the roof and walls.
