The present church dates from the fourteenth century, being built to a simple plan of single-aisled nave, chancel and south tower, in the base of which is the porch. A north chapel was constructed in 1693 but, apart from this extension, the church was apparently little changed over a period of more than 500 years until a major restoration was carried out in 1904-5, some details of which are contained in the architect’s report and additional notes which are displayed in the church. The north chapel is home to a very impressive monument by Sir Henry Cheere depicting the Newman family and has recently undergone a major restoration programme.
