St Trillo
Llandrillo yn Rhos, Clwyd
Stunning setting on banks of Tweed and lovely building.
Carham, Northumberland
Reputed to be the site of a cell established by the monastery on Lindisfarne, possibly by Cuthbert, this is an historic site on the bend of the Tweed. Especially beautiful in the Spring when the graveyard is full of daffodils. When the monks fled fromHoly Island it is said that they brought the body of St Cuthbert here. The huge churchyard, still in use, is reputed to hold the remains of st Ceowulf who was King or Northumbria around the time of St Cuthbert. The border with Scotland crosses the Tweed on the parish boundary so we border Scotland on 2 sides! The inside of the church is plain and simple, a lovely sacred space. The altar showing the arms of Durham remind us that this was once part of the diocese of Durham and the Prince Bishops held sway here for a long time.
