A late Georgian independent chapel, surrounding by fields and farms on the Lancashire/Yorkshire border which was founded in 1816 by farm workers at the nearby Martin Top Farm.
Martin Top, Lancashire
Our chapel is beautiful in its simplicity and is a glimpse into the Victorian and Georgian past. Views include the famous Pendle Hill and Yorkshire’s three peaks.
Salem chapel is the home to a small but growing congregation of evangelical Christians meeting twice on Sundays and several times mid week.
The front of the chapel is rather plain. This is because Protestant Christians traditionally preferred simple premises without much fancy adornment. They felt that God was more interested in inner beauty than outer decoration.
The sundial on the front wall is a reminder that this life we live is short and fleeting: 'Time flies swift away'. In Britain, we're used to the sun coming and then hiding again behind the cloud.

Adeiladwyd yr eglwys gyntaf ar y safle hwn yn 1841, ond fe’i difrodwyd yn ddifrifol gan dân. Yn ôl yr hanes, ym mis Mai 1891, cynhaliodd y Ficer ‘briodas yn yr adfeilion’.
