The exterior appears severe and imposing, and many of the inside walls around the windows are cut at angles to spread the light that enters.
The chancel is the oldest part of the church dating from the early 13th century. Inside, the mood is softened by plain light walls illuminated by the small lancet windows set with stained glass. The nave is also medieval, or even earlier, but has been much altered over time.
The Arbuthnott family aisle and the bell tower, added in the late 15th century, enhance the church's medieval feel.
There are other interesting elements, such as the piscina and stoop, and the fine 19th century pedal organ.
