Essentially, St Mary's is a building of the 13th century, though the tower and the great arches supporting it are 14th century, inserted into the earlier building.

St Faith's was rebuilt twice in the 19th century but still contains evidence of the original early 13th century church and in 2018 the bells were rehung for full circle ringing after 70 years of silence.

It is believed that the present building has its origins in 12th century but there was probably an earlier Anglo Saxon or even Celtic church, for the boundary of the original churchyard forms an almost perfect circle, a feature shared with many churches of known Celtic origin.
