A light filled gem with a Shakespearean connection.

St Mary’s church was originally founded in the 7th century and was mentioned in the Domesday Book.

Located in the Lincolnshire village of Claypole, St Peter's is a thriving church at the centre of its community where all are welcome and everyone belongs.

This church with its medieval porch, dates back to the 12th century and has several important historical features including an ancient font,stained glass windows,a rood screen and interesting brasses and is set in a beautiful, well maintained churchyard.

Externally this church looks almost like a barn but once inside you will find a complete late Georgian interior, made even more so by our recent reintroduction of new timber windows.

This ancient but much altered building houses some lovely stained glass windows, see especially the depiction of the Adoration of the Shepherds in the chancel.

Much of this church was built during the 13th and 14th centuries; the tower was built in at least two distinct phases, with construction interrupted by the Black Death.
