Sitting alongside the Roman Watling Street, there has been a church at the heart of Stony Stratford since 1451.

Nearly four centuries ago, the founding members of Stony Stratford Baptist Church committed to raising a building to glorify God and announce His Kingdom to the community of Stony Stratford.

A very warm welcome to our beautiful medieval church, which lies tucked away down a quiet lane on the south side of the village.

Its tall, sturdy looking 14th century tower is one of the oldest features of this church, which incorporates a mix of differing styles.

There has been a church on the present site since medieval times, but our present church dates from 1720, with close ties to Buildwas Abbey and the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, we are in a stunning location overlooking the River Severn.

Although largely stone built, St Mary's is entered through a charming early 18th century brick porch, with a large blue and gold sundial.

The church dates from around 1300 but it is the intervention of the Spencer family of nearby Althorp that transformed the medieval building. Sir John Spencer (d1522) rebuilt the chancel and commenced the funerary chapel that lies adjacent to it.
