Before it became surrounded by a sea of modern housing and other developments, the impact of West Walton's huge detached tower in this flat landscape must have been genuinely awe inspiring.

Set in a large and leafy churchyard, this attractive flint built church dates from the 13th century, thought to be founded by the monks of St Augustines' Abbey in Canterbury who may have used Littlebourne as a vineyard.

Dates from the 13th century and is thought to have replaced an earlier Saxon preaching cross, the remains of which are preserved in a glass case in the south transept.

Built in about 1150, St Michael's church is a simple single aisled building displaying a Norman chancel arch and a later 14th century tower.
