Noted in the Domesday book and featured in Dr Nikolaus Pevsner’s book Essex, St Andrew’s has a well documented history.

The church has been referenced in significant historic events, such as the 1648 Siege of Colchester, where the church can be seen marked on the Siege Map. Additionally, there is evidence of cannon ball damage on the church tower, dating from when the town was besieged during the English Civil War.

In addition to these points of interest, St Andrew’s church is an attractive building with a distinctive atmosphere that is valued by those seeking sanctuary within the highly urbanised Greenstead area. St Andrew’s is also home to the oldest organ in Colchester which was donated to the church in the 1950s.
