A stunning, peaceful church always open.

Built in 1873 to hold 240 people by at that time 12 original members, some of their relations still members of the church today.

St Matthias was built as a Chapel of Ease of St Mark, Torwood.

It can't have been easy being a Roman Catholic in Brixham for it was here, in 1688 that the protestant King William of Orange landed with 35,000 troops to begin the march on London which ended hopes of a catholic succession.

An unusual, if not unique octagonal church rebuilt in 1821, with a medieval tower.

Under the Act of 1843, districts were separated from large parishes and were known as ‘Peel Districts’, from Sir Robert Peel who promoted the Act.
