St James, dating from the 12th century, is situated beside the river Soar at one of the most southerly points in the county of Nottinghamshire.

Always open to visitors, St Martin's is a peaceful, numinous church where people come to meditate and be refreshed.

The church is in the former stores and maltings of Acresford Brewery, and because of its history and uniqueness in being located in a row of terraced cottages it is a Methodist Heritage Site.

Only in the Covenhams can you find one village that is really two, having two churches that serve one!

The church was consecrated in 1892 to replace the defunct and derelict St Mary’s.
