Queen Etheldreda was foundress and abbess of Ely and it was here that she restored an old church and built her monastery.

A remarkable church, its rather drab exterior hides a beautiful interior, with high vaulted apses, beautiful stained glass windows and numerous memorials, including the WW2 memorial for the fallen from Ely.

This lovely village church is grade I listed and dates from the beginning of the 14th century, when stone from the demolished Norman church was reused to build the present one, in the Perpendicular style.

Empshott is a beautiful area of English farmland and woodland at the headwaters of the River Rother, the church is 13th century, though there has inevitably been some rebuilding over the centuries, including a charming bell turret.

St Augustine’s promises a warm welcome to all visitors, whether they are looking in on their parish church or have a special interest in stained glass.

St Mark’s lies within the Englefield Estate and its history is intertwined with neighbouring Englefield House, it sits in a beautiful rural location, within the walled village, next to the deer park.

The only museum of the 19th century Primitive Methodist movement.

Located within the Lake District National Park, first stop on the popular Coast to Coast walk, St Mary’s is beside the River Ehen, close to the two pubs and a tearoom and shop; the old churchyard has associations with William Wordsworth.
