Eglwys Crist

Adeiladwyd yr eglwys gyntaf ar y safle hwn yn 1841, ond fe’i difrodwyd yn ddifrifol gan dân. Yn ôl yr hanes, ym mis Mai 1891, cynhaliodd y Ficer ‘briodas yn yr adfeilion’.
The church was built between 1853 and 1855 for the new parish of Brampton Bierlow. The land for the church was donated by Earl Fitzwilliam of nearby Wentworth Woodhouse.
The tower is 70 feet high and was originally topped by eight stone pinnacles, which were removed in the late 1950’s when they became unsafe.
Christ Church was refurbished for it’s Golden Jubilee in 1905 when the oak rood screen and reredos was installed, together with a new Harrison & Harrison organ (which continues to be used to this day) and a tower clock.
There are few memorials in church but there are some beautiful windows and of course the unusual ‘cow and milkmaid’ pillar.
Outside the church are many carved stone heads and gargoyles, some in extremely good condition.
