St Deiniol
Penarlâg, Flintshire
Mae eglwys wedi’i chysegru i Sant Deiniol wedi sefyll ar y safle hwn ers y chweched ganrif. Mae’r gynulleidfa’n ymfalchïo yn y cysylltiad rhwng yr eglwys a theulu y Prif Weinidog Fictoraidd, William Ewart Gladstone.
Most of the surviving older stonework is 13th century, but the church decayed after the Dissolution and had to be rebuilt in the 19th century.
As if to make up for its lost heritage, the church now has a fascinating display on the Monks of Micklegate, focusing on the beautiful 13th century illuminated Book of Beasts they created (currently in St John's College, Oxford).
In the Middle Ages, Holy Trinity was the starting point for the celebrated York Mystery Plays; there is also a set of stocks in the churchyard.
