St Candida is the home of Dorset's Patron Saint, St Wite, who was a Saxon holy woman and healer. Her sainthood was affirmed by King Alfred the Great. Her Shrine is embedded in the North wall of the church.

The South Transcept and pillars are oldest part of the church built by the Saxons. Much of the remaining building is later and was added to as the church grew because it has been a site of pilgrimage for over 1,000 years. There is deep spiritual heritage in St Candida. It is the 'thin place' where heaven touches earth. To catch a glimpse, rest awhile by the Shrine and pray or take a seat in our pews and allow the silence to speak to your heart.
