This is a large and handsome town church, built in the early 14th century, with additions in the 15th century.

Cheshire's finest parish church dates largely from the mid to late 14th century and, like so many Cheshire churches, it is built of sandstone.

The small church is of Celtic origin first recorded in 1253 and possibly built on the site of a monastery with a circular churchyard.
