Regarded as one of the finest but least known gems of ecclesiastical architecture in the country, it is a Gothic gem set in a diamond.

St Thomas' is situated in a small, hilltop village in West Yorkshire and showcases a beautiful, newly renovated stained glass window depicting the parable of The Good Samaritan and many more original features including a pipe organ with hand painted pipes.

Originally consisting of a chancel and nave, the church dates back to the end of the 12th century and is dedicated to St. Wilfrid, as are so many other churches in the Trent Valley.

An intimate 12th century church noted for its tympanum and other Norman carvings set in a peaceful conservation village on the edge of Rutland Water.

Claimed to date back to around 520AD, the present tower was built in the 13th century, and most of the body of the church was rebuilt in the 19th century.

The church is a ‘noble edifice in the early English style of Gothic architecture’from which the view is beautiful, over Worsbrough reservoir to Wortley, Stainborough Park and Worsbrough Park.

After passing the splendid churchyard yew (over 1,000 years old), the latched door in the 14th century porch opens to reveal a church with a wall painting of St Christopher.
