The pretty white church of St James in Charlestown, Baildon is a late 19th century painted tongue and groove timber building, it was moved to Yorkshire from Essex by traction engine in 1904.

This lovely church, has been a place where worship has been offered to God for over 1000 years, with the original Norman church constructed during the reign of Henry I (d 1135).

For more than 1000 years a building has stood on this spot, Saxons and Normans, Tudors and Elizabethans, Victorians and even us today have left their mark on it.

A Georgian Church set in the middle of the Georgian St John's Square in the heart of Wakefield's Northern Conservation Area.
