Beautiful 13th century limestone, cruciform church with a stunning reredos created by WD Caröe featuring of agriculture and textile working.

 The first records of the church indicate it was rebuilt some time after 1066 by the Lord of the Manor, William Paganel, who gave it, with other possessions of his, to Drax Priory in the time of Archbishop Thurstan (1119–1140).

The chapel’s first minister appointed in 1695 rejoiced in the name of Accepted Lister.

Built between 1851 and 1853 at a time when the town was rapidly expanding and prosperous, the church is vast, with a magnificent tower with octagonal spire reaching to some 220 feet high, a landmark which can be seen for many miles around.
