The church was founded in 1777 by by Willielma Maxwell, Viscountess Glenorchy, Lady Glenorchy, as an Independent Church.

Aldingham church hugs the Cumbrian side of Morecambe Bay and is open to the wild beauty of the Bay, an area of designated county landscape importance and scenic beauty.

Although The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) built a Meeting House in Darlington in 1678 (when they bought the plot for ’35), the present structure was not completed until about 1846.

St Mary's was built in 1856, on the site of several earlier churches, by the Londonderry family who lived at nearby Wynyard Hall.

This tiny church is in fact the remnants of the original church of the village of Upleatham, northwest of Whitby.

Cartmel has been described as the medieval jewel among churches, making a lasting impression on the visitor, overshadowing the village as it does and giving an idea of the way early priories must have dominated their surroundings.

Built in 1873 to hold 240 people by at that time 12 original members, some of their relations still members of the church today.

Beautiful Grade I listed church circa 1125 with Norman features.

A local landmark, the church is set on the end of a limestone ridge at the gateway to the Lake District National Park with beautiful views across the Kent Estuary to Morecambe Bay.
