St Oswald's is essentially a 12th century church that was extensively rebuilt and restored in Victorian times but still has the chancel arch and font remaining from the original Norman church.

Built in 1726, the church commands extensive views across the Lyth valley towards the distant Lakeland fells and Morecambe Bay.

Founded in 1504 and Grade I listed this peaceful church is tucked away on the Fell, surrounded by a graveyard rich with wildflowers, the interior contains unusual box pews, a triple decker pulpit and stained glass both ancient and modern.

Mount Zion Chapel was opened in 1876, the same year in which the Midland Railway Company opened the famous Settle to Carlisle railway, serving the local community of railway employees and farmers.

It is thought that two stone mason brothers built this primitive Methodist chapel and the adjoining 3 cottages in 1841, in what is now known as The Street.
