Find a church

A church has existed on this site since Saxon times, but the oldest part of the present building dates from 1144.

The mines are gone but the church still stand proudly on the hillside and welcoming everyone who wishes to enter.

St Petroc’s church is the largest and one of the oldest parish churches in Cornwall.

In the late 1200s the Archbishop of Canterbury established a college here for a master and six canons (priests), which accounts for the large size of this church, and also accounts for the timber framed houses opposite, which were where the master and his canons lived.

The church is situated alongside a stream in the picturesque and secluded valley of Nansent in the hamlet of St Breock, about a mile west of Wadebridge town centre.
