The church was designed by Basil Spence, the architect of Coventry Cathedral, and was consecrated on the Eve of the Conversion of St Paul, January 24 1959.

We are open on the last Thursday morning of the month for coffee and a wonder around our Grade II* listed building.

There has been a Christian church on this site since at least 633 AD, as recorded by the Veneral Bede who mentioned that there was a church and a priest during the time of the Battle of Hatfield in that same year.

The church stands in the grounds of the Hall, which was and still is the home of the Heneage family and the chancel and north chapel contain an unparalleled and virtually unbroken sequence of family monuments dating from the 15th century.

Built of local greenstone, the church of St Helen is a Grade II listed church originating in the 12th century.

A pretty rural church situated on the banks of the River Trent, with a fine, original Norman arch and Maltese Crosses denoting its connection with the Knights Hospitallers.
