St Etheldreda’s is the oldest Catholic church in England and one of only two remaining buildings in London from the reign of Edward I.

A Partnership Grant awarded on the recommendation of the Hampshire and The Islands Historic Churches Trust.

Outstandingly rich, colourful and layered with history, the chapel’s vaulted ceiling was installed by Henry VIII in the 1530s and is the grand culmination of Tudor opulence at Hampton Court.

Standing just a few yards from the River Thames, this historic church has a history going back into the depths of the Dark Ages.

There has been a community of people worshiping in London Fields for over 150 years, ever since the first church, in Lamb Lane to the East of London Fields, was consecrated in 1864.

The church is Grade II* listed, the nave and chancel are 12th century and the church was greatly extended in 1854.

The church that John Betjeman called, 'A baroque paradise at the heart of the Strand'.

The only remaining military chapel in London, The Guards Chapel was rebuilt in a beautifully spare style following almost total destruction by a flying bomb in 1944.

The chapel has been, variously, the Chapter House of a Carthusian monastery, a storage place for Henry VIII’s hunting equipment, and the private chapel of a Tudor mansion.

A site of worship for at least 1000 years, but when the crypt was excavated Roman remains were found so the site could have been in use for much longer still.

This is the 'Oranges and Lemons' church, rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren in 1682, burnt out during World War II and reconsecrated as the Central Church of the Royal Air Force in 1958 with antique and modern silver, RAF Books of Remembrance, Squadron Standards and Badges.

There are very few historic places in London where the early medieval period is so beautifully preserved as at St Bartholomew the Great, even entry to the church is through a 13th century arch with a half timbered gatehouse.
