This small church, which is a haven for peace and quiet, is situated beside the Wayfarers’ Walk, a short walk from Hinton Ampner and its National Trust property and church.

Fifteen centuries of English history lie behind the massive Cathedral you see today. It stands at the heart of historic Winchester, once the seat of Anglo-Saxon and Norman royal power, on the site of an early Christian church. It’s been a place of worship ever since.

The King of All England, King Edgar was crowned on this site in 973 and the service set the precedent for the coronation of all future Kings and Queens of England including Elizabeth II.

With its unusual dedication to St Mary, St Katharine & All Saints, Edington's battlemented church is of a size and splendour out of all proportion to the quiet little village in which it stands.

This remarkable church was built in 1840-50 by Wyatt & Brandon for the Reverend Thomas Mozley, Cardinal Newman’s brother in law.

The chapel was built between the years 1387 and 1395 to designs by William Wynford, with Hugh Herland responsible for the traceried wooden ceiling and Thomas of Oxford for the glazing.

Cymmer Abbey was founded in 1198 by monks from Cwm-hir under the patronage of the local ruler Maredud ap Cynan and his powerful cousin Llywelyn ab Iorwerth, Llywelyn the Great, prince of north Wales.
