St James was founded as a Chapel of Ease for Altham parish church in 1546, rebuilt in 1763 and extended in 1828.

Heptonstall is one of the oldest Methodist churches in use, with an octagonal shape, designed by John Wesley.

Used by generations of villagers for worship, we are proud to open for visitors most days.

The current church was built by ED Rainey of Spilsby in 1838 and replaced an earlier church which had become derelict.
