Unspoilt prereformation church including very rare rood loft, set in quiet garden within the medieval moated site.

There has been a building on the site since 1230, when Simon de Tynton was presented by William de Lisures to be the first Rector.

Mentioned in the Doomsday Book in 1086, St Edward the Confessor is situated on land formerly owned by Kolsveinn, Lord of Brattleby and tenant in chief of more than fifty manors in the county at that time.

St Peter’s was opened in 1909, built for the growing population of the time.

This church was built between 1837 and 1839, on land given by Earl Fitzwilliam of Wentworth Woodhouse.

In 1794, the Roman Catholic Church sought to tackle Manchester's deepest troubled area on a site crowded in by intensive poor quality housing on land which had so recently been open meadow and grazing pasture.
