Welcome to our stunning church, whose architecture, furnishings, history and heritage have been shaped by over 900 years of faith and worship.

Tucked away from its village, and next to Copford Hall, St Michael's is one of Essex's most important Norman churches, and has a remarkable collection of original wall paintings from the 1140s.

This Grade I Norman church has some stones used in its construction which indicate an earlier Saxon church on this site.

A quiet, thoughtful place in a loud world.

The present building dates back to the 13th century, but there is reason to believe that a church existed before this date and certainly by 1190.

Come and explore our beautiful, almost untouched, example of a medieval parish church.

In the centre of the town, just to the east of the site of what was once an important castle, and close to the River Nene, this church has a long and complex history, all reflected in its unusual internal arrangements.

We have come full circle - built as a place of worship in 1822, returned to a place of worship in 2025.
