The church was founded in 1796 and is an attractive Grade II listing building.

Christ Church is a splendid Victorian church, built in the decorated style in 1855, when the communities of Brampton and West Melton were growing fast with the expansion of coal mining.

Our church building, opened in 1819 originally seated 1500, oday the interior has been tastefully reordered to make it suitable for a wider range of activities for people of all ages; there are activities most days of the week and the church is opened regularly for viewing.

For more than 1000 years a building has stood on this spot, Saxons and Normans, Tudors and Elizabethans, Victorians and even us today have left their mark on it.

The church was built in 1825, with seating for 350 people, a schoolroom and classrooms that were opened later, in 1852. It was built as an impressive town centre Congregational Chapel.
