The church of St Nicholas is privately owned and falls in the grounds of Landwade Hall.

Llanwern is translated as ‘the church among the grove of the alders’, but today it is the sight, sound and smells of the nearby Llanwern steelworks which are the dominant feature of the landscape.

The Grade I church is mainly Perpendicular but it possesses on the north side an exquisite late Norman doorway.
