St Saviour’s is the memorial church to Parkin Jeffcock, a mining engineer who was killed during rescue operations after the Oaks Colliery Disaster in 1866.

One of the oldest NonConformist chapels in West Yorkshire, the Grade II listed building was founded 1689.

The present church is the third built in the village. An old ruined chapel, thought to have been sited near Pule Hill, was recorded in 1650.

Our lovely church has stood above the village of Whiston for over 800 years.

Built in 1845 at the expense of the 4th Duke of Newcastle under Lyne, the church stands on high ground and looks down towards the main street of the village.
