The church was consecrated in 1892 to replace the defunct and derelict St Mary’s.

The church is significant to the community as it stands at the heart of Gatley village overlooking and next to the village green and civic war memorial.

Built in 1975, St Philip’s is a small brick building with sloping roof bearing a single bell turret and a later extension.

The parish was created in 1883 from land formerly belonging to the parish of Gedling and the church itself was consecrated in 1885.

In August 2020 St Bartholomew's will celebrate 800 years of worship in this building with many of the original features still present.
