Fine late Victorian church serving the Hereford community of Bartonsham.

There has been a place of worship on the cathedral site since at least the 8th century, although no part of any building earlier than the 11th century bishop’s chapel survives.

A simple village church in an ancient elevated churchyard, in a stunning setting with views up the valley and to the surrounding hills.

The charm of this country church is the view of the north and west escarpments of the Black Mountains.

Our visitors describe this as a beautiful church, it is on the outskirts of the city centre, outside the old city walls, a peaceful, genuinely restful building.

St Mary's stands on high ground above its very pretty village, which prospered during the late medieval cloth making boom.

A wonderful country Cotswold church, simply constructed but containing medieval wall paintings, fascinating Norman tympanium and stone chancel screen.

Hidden in the woods south of the village, St Mary's is a simple aisleless building with its tower, nave and chancel all severely restored by the Victorians.

It is hard to imagine a more idyllic country church than St Margaret's, its location is pure magic, one of the loveliest spots in the Cotswolds.

Waltham Abbey was founded in 1030 in what was then a thickly forested part of what we now call Epping Forest, it was rebuilt 1060 by Harold II, and it was here that his body was brought after the Battle of Hastings.

Seen from the lane it is a thatched brick building, whitewashed except for where the windows and doors are picked out in red brick.
