There has been a church on this site since 1090 and St Mary's once hosted (the then Princess) Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as a bridesmaid in 1931.

The best way to approach this charming 18th century parish church is to stroll the mile from Milngavie.

This is a superb example of the work of William Butterfield (1814-1900) who designed almost the whole of the village of Baldersby, under a rich commission from Viscount Downe.

The village of Balderton is mentioned in Domesday and there was possibly a church of Saxon origin although no trace of this has ever been found.

The granite church overlooks the River Dee and the ruins of the 14th century church.

Ballyclog has centuries of Christian history, historic church ruins, a stunningly beautiful 'new' church opened in 1865 and friendly knowledgeable guides called The Friends of Ballyclog.

St Paul's church was built around 1732 and rebuilt in 1768, becoming cruciform by the addition of an apse and transepts and a low bell tower. 

The present Gothic style church was built by Fr John Lynch and finished in 1860, the bell tower with its 37 hundred weight bell was added in 1908.

The tower at over 90 feet is one of the highest vantage points in Ballymena and is one of the few remaining seven towers of Ballymena.

The church was designed by famous architect Charles Lanyon, and is an excellent source of information, through parish records, for anyone tracing their family tree.
