The Priory church of St Mary & the Holy Cross was the nave of a Benedictine priory church, the priory was dedicated to St Mary and the church to the Holy Cross.

Welcome to our beautiful and ancient church in its beautiful parkland setting in the Marches, between the River Wye, apple orchards and the hills flanking the Welsh border.

This cruciform 14th century church with its wooden, slate dressed tower and a Georgian lead roof was sadly made redundant in 1980.

St Peter’s most striking feature is its Saxon round tower which was built circa 1000AD and considered to be one of the best in the country.

Aylesford Priory or 'The Friars' is the home to a small community of Carmelite Friars, who first came here in 1242.

The architect Charles Hansom, designer of fifty Catholic churches in the country and brother of Joseph Aloysius Hansom, the designer of the Hansom cab, regarded St John’s as his best and most rewarding work.

St Michael’s dates from the 13th century with fascinating features including a rare two-manual 19th century pipe organ.

A grant to help fund work including replacing the cramped tea-bar, library and toilet with a spacious kitchen and fully accessible toilet, and to improve energy efficiency and reduce running costs by installing draught-proofing and double/secondary glazing windows.

The King of All England, King Edgar was crowned on this site in 973 and the service set the precedent for the coronation of all future Kings and Queens of England including Elizabeth II.

St Nicholas stands on a bend on the A46 and is easily missed, but if you stop you will find a surprisingly beautiful church with Saxon tower, grave markers, Norman font and other ancient features.

The Grade I church is well grouped with the manor house.
