Winefride (Gwenfrewi) was the daughter of a local prince named Tewyth and his wife Gwenlo, her uncle was St Beuno.

Located in north Down just a few miles from Belfast the Victorian church building is open daily for prayer and meditation.

Hidden in the woods south of the village, St Mary's is a simple aisleless building with its tower, nave and chancel all severely restored by the Victorians.

The first church was built by the Normans shortly after 1100 AD. In spite of the need to extend, repair and replace over the centuries, parts of the original Norman church can still be seen today.

The church at Hope has its origins in the 12th century; it has many well documented historical features which provide interest but manage not to dominate the church or destroy the peaceful atmosphere which so many visitors comment on.

Capel Rhondda was built in 1853 and rebuilt in 1886.

The first Wesleyan Methodist chapel was built in 1786 in the district known as The Wong or Cagthorpe. It was replaced by a new chapel on the same site in 1806.
