Find a church

A small church set in the hamlet of Greetham on one of the highest points on the Lincolnshire Wolds, with spectacular views across the rolling hillside.

Situated in open countryside on the north bank of the River Witham, the parish derives its name from a spring which sends water to the nearby River Witham.

Grade II* listed building, with a 12th century nave and 14th century chancel, with works by Peter Gaspar Scheemakers.

Very fine misericords and carvings, a wealth of medieval glass, a memorial to 266 miners and a peal of bells which is one of the Seven Wonders of Wales.

The church had its origins in Pictish times at St Brigids Well on Gretna Hill.

Along with Inch Abbey, Greyabbey is the best example of Anglo-Norman Cistercian architecture in Ulster and was the daughter house of Holm Cultram in Cumbria.

Greystoke is an area of ancient sacred wells, which attracted pilgrims from pagan times and in St Andrew's, the strange fact that the base of the chantry altar is never dry could be the reason for the earliest wooden built church on this site.

When it opened its doors in 1904 it was declared to be ‘a church built by miners for the miners’.
