Built on a prominent hillside at the heart of the village that was created at the same time, St Mary's was designed, built and given to the parish by the eminent Victorian architect, George Edmund Street, in memory of his second wife. It was consecrated in 1879.

A beautiful 12th century church that is open every day of the year.

St Mary's stands in water meadows beside the young River Adur, close to the white windmill made famous as the fictional home of Jonathan Creek of TV fame.

Built in 1848 to replace the earlier medieval church, St James’ with its gothic appearance complete with sandstone dressings, is Grade II* listed and one of the earliest works of John Loughborough Pearson, the architect of Truro Cathedral.

This church has considerable visual significance with a shingled spire that is characteristic of the rural parishes of Surrey.

The church overlooks the churchyard with a spectacular view of the Roman site of Letocetum which had grown around the Roman fort at the junction of Watling Street and Ryknild Street.

A tower dating from the 14th century, a 15th century wall painting, a monument to knight who fought at the battle of Bosworth, a Robert Adam font, a Joseph Nollekans monument and beautiful stained glass.

Lying within a quiet lost valley, this is a fine old building constructed in the classic Vale of Clwyd twin nave style, a place of peace.
