This pretty church church stands on a hill overlooking idyllic countryside.

St Joseph’s was founded as a Mission from nearby Cobridge in 1895 and in 1925 work started on the present church designed in the north Italian Lombardic or Romanesque style by the young architect JS Brocklesby.

With a founding date of 1343, Marton's church just pips Lower Peover to the post to make it possibly the oldest timber framed church of its kind in Europe.

Built by Act of Parliament, a 1814, galleried Georgian interior with vault supported on cast iron pillars, and Victorian chancel with 1920 rood screen war memorial.

Sitting on top of the hill, just across the road from Canons Ashby House, this church is looked after by the National Trust, it is a fragment of the west end of the nave of the Augustinian Priory founded around 1150.
