A beautiful village church.

Built in 1865 of local sandstone with a Gothic style bell tower, excellent stained glass windows and a series of 25 frescoes decorating the interior.

The church has Anglo Saxon origins but is mainly 14th and 15th century.

Built on the site of a timber motte and bailey castle, the white, cylindrical keep of this 12th century castle is a spectacular structure.

The church was built by the 2nd Viscount Halifax, keen to inspire the local community and encourage their spiritual wellbeing.

On the 6th October 2019 our chapel celebrates 150 years continuous worship.

The recorded history of the church begins in 1120 when Swein, son of Ailric granted the 'church at Hoderode' into the control of the monks at Nostell Priory.
