St John the Evangelist has been welcoming the parish and people of the Park district since 1834.

Situated a stone's throw away from the heart of Sheffield, we are a Victorian church displaying various items from the Arts & Crafts era, such as fine copperware and reredos.

We are open on the last Thursday morning of the month for coffee and a wonder around our Grade II* listed building.

The church building, designed by John Mark Mansell Jenkinson, the second generation of a Sheffield firm of architects, was opened in 1971.

Visitors are always welcome to this 300 year old city centre Unitarian Chapel.

The highlight of a visit is to the Sanctuary to view the fine triptych reredos with covered cornice and panels of saints and inscriptions recording incumbents and donors.

To the casual passerby on the busy main road between Bradford and Halifax, Bethel Chapel, may signify nothing more than a large sombre building with a very large well kept graveyard.

A church is recorded in Domesday Book in the village while there exists evidence for an older Christian heritage, visitors are welcome in the church, to enjoy its tranquillity and explore the features that illuminate its past.

Before 1868 local people had to walk to Kirkburton to go to church.
