St Mary Crowned Catholic Church

The church was built and paid for by the Sumner family. The design is in the Early English Gothic style and was built to the designs of A.E. Dempster of Birmingham in 1882. It is a grade II listed building built from millstone grit with Welsh slate roofs. The church is particularly striking for its vast scale and internal height (70 feet/23 metres), and retains some quality late 19th century fittings.

The grant will enable the church to replace some ineffective rainwater goods.
