Penuel is a bilingual Welsh Baptist church built in 1837 for the growing iron making community in Rhymney South Wales.

It is of great historical and cultural interest for the non conformist movement and the Welsh speaking residents of Rhymney. It has a capacity of 1200 .The original pews remain and the large baptismal pool is concealed beneath the pulpit platform.

Penuel members believed in full immersion for baptism and were known as 'Dippers' and were opposed by the 'Sprinklers'.

The entrance to the building is behind the pulpit and the seating is arranged in a semi circle. Welsh services are held on a regular basis for the community.

Revd John Jones (Mathetes) was minister 1862-1877 and he was the author of a Welsh bible dictionary.
