St Mary's was an 1153 church redeveloped in the 13th and 14th centuries into a grand place of worship.

It sits adjacent to Berkeley Castle and the home of Dr Edward Jenner, who is buried in the church. Other notable tombs are for the priest & bible translator, John Trevisa, Baron Thomas & Lady Katherine de Berkeley, and the last Court Jester, Dicky Pearce. The church still shows the scars of an English Civil War battle, has beautiful Victorian stained glass and wonderful wall paintings.
