St Mary's is a round tower church with a thatched nave and slate covered chancel. The local reeds were gathered from the Somerton Marshes and used in the re-thatching in 2009.

The 14th century wall paintings are 'stabilised', they were very damp and deteriorating 25 years ago and the churchwardens decided to save the wall paintings so they could be restored. They raised the money (£500,000) over 4 projects and won the English Heritage Award in 2009 for the Best Repair or Rescue of a Place of Worship. The boards inside the church show the four projects and the English Heritage Award ceremony.
