St John the Baptist is the parish church of Upton Bishop and also serves the hamlet of Phocle Green.

It is the oldest building in the village and we are very proud of our Roman fragment which is displayed within the church. The church is surrounded by a peaceful chuchyard which is a haven for wildlife and in the Spring is awash with swathes of rare wild daffodils.

Members of the public are welcome to visit us to have a look around or to spend time in quiet reflection. Our claim to fame is that a Rector in Victorian times was Francis Havergal who lived at the vicarage with his sister, Frances, the well known hymn writer. Frances' most famous hymn is 'Take my Life and Let it Be'.
