The church is a fine stone-built Early Gothic building, dating from 1880, formerly known as the Lawson Memorial church in honour of a dynasty of ministers in the 1800s.

To the rear is a hall, and ancillary buildings, widely used by community groups. The church has a three stage tower and steeple, a range of carved wooden furniture from three previous church buildings in the town, including communion tables, chairs, wooden pulpit and memorial plaques. A fine timber boarded ceiling was added in 1950. The pipe organ, installed in 1900, is no longer functioning.

This was one of the first churches in Scotland to install solar panels its roof, and has gained gold award eco status, based on the congregations commitment to addressing environmental issues. Ongoing developments are planned to make the building more accessible, welcoming and community oriented.
