This small but beautiful church is located in the very centre of Sancreed (Cornish: Eglossankres) in the inland parish in the Hundred of Penwith, about four miles west of Penzance and forms part of the gloriously wild and ruggedly beautiful area of West Penwith at the most westerly tip of Cornwall.

This is a beautiful 11th/13th century building overlooking the River Severn with excellent stained glass windows, a wonderful roof beam structure and a number of listed monuments in the churchyard.

St Mary's has occupied this site for over 900 years, although we are uncertain of the date of consecration.

The first chapel on this site was a meeting room in a building also used as a pub called The Plough, which stood here in the 17th century.
